Promoting French language teaching and research into French linguistics in Higher Education.

Details of the 2008 post-graduate bursary are now available.
The AFLS invites applications for a bursary of £2,000 to an outstanding candidate, registered for a PhD, who already has well under way a programme of doctoral research in French Language Studies. The bursary is intended to help ensure successful completion.

The 2008 AFLS conference will be held in Oxford. The conference mini-site can be found here and gives lots of information about the conference and staying in Oxford.

Please note the following upcoming workshops:

AFLS supports the World Congress of French linguistics.

The Association:

AFLS was founded in 1981 to encourage and promote language teaching activities and research in French Language and Linguistics as areas worthy of consideration in their own right. The Association acts as a forum for scholarly discussion and for the exchange of information among those interested and engaged in teaching French in Higher Education.

The Association has members all over the world from the UK and France to the USA, Canada and Australia.

Membership:

Membership of the Association brings you:

  • the Journal of French Language Studies (JFLS)
  • Cahiers: carrying the Association's news and refereed articles
  • the possibility of joining research projects and exchanging research information
  • a reduced rate for annual conferences
  • frequent workshops
  • access to Email-based afls-news mailing list
  • news of developments in research and in language teaching in other institutions and other countries
  • information about AFLS publications.

The Association organises:

  • a yearly conference in the UK or in a Francophone country
  • workshops on practical and theoretical topics.
